The Stonecastle
Family Band began life with the songwriting of their leader,
Rick Steinburg. Rick began recording and performing his songs
in Austin in the 90's. Singing at bedtime was a nightly routine
in the Steinburg household. The family began singing in the kitchen
of their home during casual rehearsals for Rick's solo performances.
Encouraging the girls to learn instruments as well as sing, they
worked on harmonies and instrumental arrangements and soon occasional
live and recorded collaborations began to happen.
As
the family’s
participation grew, Rick began writing with the family in mind;
songs with parts for mandolin, fiddle and harmony vocals. In
2001, the band started doing out of state tours in the summer
; performing in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina,
Arkansas, Kansas, and Colorado. In 2003 the band decided to focus
their music as a Christian ministry and began planning events
and recording to that end, playing at more church events, benefits
as well as secular venues in central Texas.
